Nonparametric density and regression estimation

Article Abstract:

Research designed to show that nonparametric methods do not need to be restricted to use by econometricians is presented. It is suggested that the most significant limitations for applied economics researchers are the absence of a commonly recognize way to select an appropriate bandwidth and the absence of a straightforward method for calculating reliable standard errors.

Quantile regression

Article Abstract:

Quantile regression embraces the estimation of conditional quantile functions, in which qualities of the conditional distribution of the response variable are presented as functions of observed covariates. It is as convenient as traditional linear regression for estimating models for conditional quantile functions.

Are returns to schooling concentrated among the most able? A semiparametric analysis of the ability-earning relationships

Article Abstract:

The relationship between ability and log waves using flexible estimation techniques is discussed. According to the results, ability sorting into higher education creates problems for accurately identifying the return to schooling over the entire ability support.
