Nutrition and health investment

Article Abstract:

The impact of health and nutrition on industrial productivity raises questions over the magnitude of such an effect, particularly in the case of efficient caloric allocations for potential productivity returns. This health-productivity relationship is modeled against an agricultural labor market, where compensation on a time-rate basis can be given in meal form. Returns to the relationship are conditioned by the shape of the relationship, time frame of the nutritional effect, body processing functions and income seasonality for agricultural households.

Do domestic firms benefit from direct foreign investment? Evidence from Venezuela

Article Abstract:

The impact of direct foreign investment, particularly in encouraging technology spillovers from foreign to domestic firms, is investigated using data on Venezuelan plants. Results show that foreign investment enhances plant productivity, but this effect is only feasible for small firms. An analysis of spillovers from joint ventures to plants having no foreign investment reveals that it adversely affect productivity of domestic plants and that its net impact is relatively small.
