Petrochemical projects update

Article Abstract:

The Saudi Basic Industries Corp (Sabic) controls most of the petrochemical production in Saudi Arabia and is involved in petrochemical expansion projects that will cost approximately $4 billion and be completed in late 1998. Sabic produced 14 million metric tons of petrochemicals in 1994 compared to 11 million in 1993 and its net profit for 1994 almost doubled 1993 at $1.067 billion. The private sector is expected to spend between $1 billion and $2 billion on downstream projects but is hampered by necessary government authorizations.

Petrochemical expansion purchases peaking

Article Abstract:

State-owned Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) will spend $7 billion on 19 or more projects, and private petrochemical industry companies will be spending another $1.9 billion. This seems like a peak in buying, but the Saudis are a choice market for American industrial goods because the dollar is weak. Descriptions of 19 SABIC projects and joint ventures are listed, with a directory of contacts.
