Population ageing and intergenerational conflict: a post-Keynesian view

Article Abstract:

A post-Keynesian approach is adopted to examine the effects of population ageing on an economy's resources. From this perspective, unemployment and excess capacity are regarded as normal in a capitalist economy and that resources are not, in general, fully utilized. Population ageing is thus shown to be more complicated than a direct, positive link between the demographic dependency ratio and resource burdens. Changes in employment or investment may indirectly temper the effects of population ageing.

Imperfect competition as a micro foundation for Keynesian macroeconomics: a graphical analysis

Article Abstract:

An analysis of imperfect competition as a possible basis for Keynesian macroeconomics is presented. The analysis assumes the insensitivity of real wages to short-term employment variations. It is shown that a simple imperfect competitive model can function as a foundation for Keynesian macroeconomics. Under such conditions, aggregate demand and supply disturbances influence output and employment.
