Price movements: May 1993

Article Abstract:

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.1% in May 1993. The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers rose 0.2% in May 1993. The CPI-U went to 144.2 without seasonal adjustment, a rise of 3.2% for the past 12 months. The CPI-W went to 141.9 without seasonal adjustment, a rise of 3.1% for the past 12 months. Smallest 12 month gains were 1.4% for the clothing industry in both CPIs. Largest 12 month gains were 6.3% for medical costs in both CPIs.

Both consumer price indexes (CPIs) rose 0.3% in Mar 1993. The CPI for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) went to 143.6 without seasonal adjustment, a rise of 3.1% for the past 12 months. The CPI for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) went to 141.1 without seasonal adjustment, a rise of 3.0% for the past 12 months. Smallest 12 month gains were for food: 1.4% in CPI-U and 1.5% in CPI-W. The largest 12 month gains were for medical costs: 6.0% in CPI-U and 6.1% in CPI-W.
