Providing windows of opportunity to corrections professionals

Article Abstract:

The job enrichment program of the Florida Department of Corrections has become an instrument to professionalize the agency's personnel. The program, which was initially conceived to reduce the 60% turnover of the correction's employees, uses elements of distance learning, such as the television for educational purposes, to allow Corrections personnel to earn criminal justice associate and baccalaureate degree programs. The program has grown from eight courses in 1996 to 51 courses in 1997.
