An application of rule-based forecasting to a situation lacking domain knowledge

Article Abstract:

Rule-based forecasting, the use of a simple extrapolation method to combine forecasts under a set of rules, were modified for the M3-Competition in the following ways: domain knowledge was assumed to be unavailable; 6 automatic identification procedures did not require judgement; and the rule-base was simplified to only 3 methods.

Automatic identification of time series features for rule-based forecasting

Article Abstract:

This paper used automated codings of time series features for rule-based forecasting and concluded that the automated feature detection heuristics used reduced cost and its effect on forecast accuracy was not negative.
