The political economy of industrial policy: automobile manufacture in the newly industrialising countries

Article Abstract:

A positive co-relation exists between state intervention and industrial developments. A study shows that newly industrialized East Asian nations are growing faster than the Latin American countries. Comparative analyses of East Asian automobile industries establish that the degree of state interventions decides the level of economic growth. Regional comparisons of East Asia and Latin America enable the understanding of the developmental variables better than inter-regional comparisons.

Inward technology transfer and competitiveness: the role of national innovation systems

Article Abstract:

A study of national innovation systems reveals that Japan and other East Asian economies have attained rapid growth and development as a consequence of inward transfer of technology, ushered in after World War II. These nations have largely invested in science and technical training, and have focused on economic policies to encourage active competition among domestic businesses.
