The political foundation of Chinese style gradualism: a paradox of too strong private interests?

Article Abstract:

Game theory can help to understand political and institutional change in China and this shows the impact of the private sector in pressing for reform. The relative strength of the private sector and pace of reform are assessed in detail.

Article Abstract:

China has successfully carried out gradual economic reform, and this may be linked to the ability of central government to ensure that policies are implemented at local level. This issue is insufficiently addressed by Henning and Lu, though they make useful comments.
