The management of defense enterprises is examined, focusing on the enterprises' socioeconomic impact on various Russian regions. The author defines different levels of regional socioeconomic status, and creates a social economics table to calculate defense enterprises' contributions to a region's economic development.

An overview is presented on the feminization of poverty in Russia. Data from the research show an increasing disparity between men's and women's wages, with women earning 56% of men's wages during 1999, which in turn has a pronounced effect on pension income.
