Apocalypse in your in-box: end-times communication on the Internet

Article Abstract:

New Age communities have formed on the Internet to discuss the millennium. Discussions, which occur by e-mail or in chat rooms, provide insights not only into the New Age movement but into the narrative techniques of Internet communication. The theories of folklorist Robert A. Georges, who believed storytelling was a social and communicative act, can be applied to Internet communication. The multiple opinions about the millennium communicated over the Internet demonstrate that New Age believers do not follow one leader and do not abide by one ideology.
