Affording prescription drugs: the value of medical research

Article Abstract:

The contribution of new drug approvals to increases in lifespan and the effect of pharmaceutical innovation on hospitalization rates and quality-of-life indicators like days of disability and degree of limitation of activities are examined. The research shows that the benefits of the drugs are not very apparent and are overlooked by policy makers and hence health reforms may worsen the public health in the long run.

Pearl Harbor and 9/11: intelligence failures

The intelligence failures of three events, to show how easily the intelligence signals can be ignored to reinforce the predispositions of policymakers, are presented. Some of these failures have resulted due to the competition among intelligence agencies that make them resistant to cooperation.
