Modular tank digitization system under development

Article Abstract:

Vickers Defense Systems is developing an open-architecture reconfigurable ventronics and fire-control system for digitizing armored fighting vehicles. The system is derived from a reconfigurable fire-control fit originally developed for the Malaysian Army's Mk 3(M) tank requirement. The system uses VME-based cards, an SFIM sighting system and software in C. The fire-control computer (FCC) software can be easily ported to different platforms because only 10% of the code is hardware specific. Moreover, battle-management system (BMS) functions have been integrated, allowing data from the sight to be sent to the BMS tactical picture through the fire-control system.
