'The Brights' is an atheist pride movement launched by leading academics to bring together freethinkers, humanists and atheists, sidelined for perceived non-belief and amoral materialism. Members are realizing that the name of the movement 'The Brights' is received with mixed reactions, they are viewed as anti-religion and also that it is not easy to convey to people a supernatural-free worldview.

Creationist John Mackay returns to the UK this month in the wake of a decision by the Royal Society and others to stand against those seeking to undermine evolutionary theory. Mackay, Australian director of the Creation Research Organisation, will speak at a public debate at Northampton University and his opponent will be Jeff Ollerton, environmental studies lecturer.
