Applications surge elates universities

Article Abstract:

The U.K. university admissions staff in February 2007 reported a sudden surge in the popularity of core sciences, mathematics and engineering. Statistics from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service revealed that the number of applications to vocational subjects such as management studies, social work and business also increased, as did arts and humanities subjects.

Women find their way up the ladder

Article Abstract:

A growing number of women are enjoying success in higher education, with the total number of female academics rising 4.9 percent from 2003-04 to 2004-05, vs a rise of only 1.2 percent in male academics. at senior lecturer and senior researcher level, women's numbers grw to 6,480 from 5,815 and the number of female professors was up to 2,055 from 1,815.

Rong Huang, international student tutor at Plymouth University's Business School, conducted a survey of problems faced by international students as one of her first moves in her role. The results confirmed that UK universities have not yet resolved even the most common problems encountered by international students.
