Beholding angel visions

Article Abstract:

Mysticism is often perceived as the opposite of rational understanding, though it has been the subject of academic theories, and is the subject of a masters course at Kent University, United Kingdom. The course, set up by Leon Schlamm, will compare religion and mysticism over time and between cultures existing today. Some academics argue that devotees of mysticism are unlikely to study the subject in an academic environment, since mysticism is related to emotions and experience, and can involve an escape from formality.

The empire watchers strike back; the Ministry of Defence is picking historians' brains

Article Abstract:

The end of the Cold War has caused a reassessment of attitudes and the Ministry of Defence has enlisted the help of historians at the Centre for Defence Studies to gain a new perspective. The centre has looked at historical events such as the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the British Raj to offer its viewpoint. It is emphasised that history is not repetitious but patterns can be discerned which help analyse present events.
