College sued over gag zone

Article Abstract:

Citrus College, a two-year community college located near Los Angeles, California, is being sued by Chris Stevens, a student at the institution, for limiting public speaking to three designated "free-speech areas". Speakers at Citrus must inform the college police if they plan to express themselves within these areas. Students who express themselves outside of these areas face arrest and can be suspended or expelled. Greg Lukianoff, the director of legal and public advocacy for the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, claims that by limiting the areas in which free speech can take place, Citrus is showing contempt for the most essential values of a free society and for the ideals on which higher education is based.
