Culture of subterfuge

Article Abstract:

A debate on medical ethics has arisen as a result of publicity given to a trial of a ventilator at North Staffordshire Hospital, England. An inquiry is being set up into the trial, and there is concern about the death rate for babies taking part, and whether parents had given informed consent. A research ethics committee should be used to review research involving humans. This review should include the type of consent that patients have given, the information that they receive, and the value of the research in scientific terms.

Rebel yell at vulgarity. Interview with Yevgeny Yevtushenko on Russian culture and capitalism

Article Abstract:

Yevgeny Yevtushenko a Russian poet, is currently a teacher of Russian at the University of Oklahoma in the US. Yevtushenko has withdrawn all support from Boris Yeltsin and remains a supporter of the late Andrei Sakharov, a Russian dissident who extolled a combination of the best of capitalism and Soviet socialism. Yevtushenko claims that recent events in Russia are denying the country a natural evolution with the society moving quickly from one extreme to the other, leading to a cultural void.
