Solving an employer's hiring problems

Article Abstract:

The Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development, Cincinnati, developed 'Project HIRE' in response to the Ohio governor's call for help to increase the labor pool in an area of full employment. Considering the nature of work in the freight company in question, emphasis was put on the worker's ability to finish the work on time and inter-personal skills. The institute was able to cater to the employees' needs due to its extensive resources and a quick response team of instructors working with local businesses and community agencies.

Thaw is slow to melt Siberia; problems for Russia's remotest region as it fights for growth

Article Abstract:

Tomsk is the central city of Siberia and until 1991 it was closed to Soviet citizens as well as foreigners. The region has considerable natural resources and a large university. Many of the academic staff have left for well-paid jobs abroad since the end of communism, and money and facilities are lacking. Some students are now being charged for courses and foreign students are being welcomed to generate income.

Russia and its tax problems: no government tax collector

Article Abstract:

Russia's economic and political system is being undermined by the state's very inefficient tax collection system. While the communist legacy and cultural factors have been blamed for the inefficiency, perverse incentives related to the country's federal system are seen to be a major culprit.
