Ucea pay review could put end to national talks

Article Abstract:

The Universities and Colleges Employers Association (Ucea) has suggested a shift to a form of consortia bargaining as part of a review of the national bargaining machinery by employers and campus unions. However, critics argue that a move to a consortia model, in which universities that share common interests reach joint agreements, would destroy any concept of national pay bargaining that would ensure national comparability on pay and protect those working at vulnerable institutions.

Does your chancellor come up trumps?

Article Abstract:

The expanding role of the unpaid non-executive chancellor at universities in the UK is examined. Many believe that the principal role of chancellors in the future will be in a fundraising role, which is why for many universities getting a famous name is paramount. Huddersfield University saw applications to study their rise by 23% after its chancellor, Patrick Stewart, provided the voice-over for an advertising campaign.
