God's little helper

Article Abstract:

Molecular biologist James Watson, who with Francis Crick unravelled the structure of DNA in 1953, does not think that cloning will change human destiny but admits that he would be relieved if cloning a monkey proved impossible. Watson feels that research to try to determine the genetic component of such diseases as schizophrenia should be less controversial. He refutes the argument that genetic data risks being misused by pointing out that all information can be misused. Watson has a son with severe learning difficulties and admits that it is difficult to love a child who does not look right.
