Health is fine on a drop of wine

Article Abstract:

The new French laws on alcohol banned television advertsing and imposed health warnings, but also spurred research into the positive health aspects of wine. Professor Bezard, of the University of Bergundy in Dijon, has focused on the effects of resveratrol, an aromatic compound, on the cardiovascular system. Bordeaux University has the largest wine research centre in France, and undertakes the study of the biochemistry of aromas and aroma stability. The university's oenology diploma course produces about 40 graduates a year.

Cambodians find fault with French assault

Article Abstract:

Cambodian students have protested over the use of French for teaching at the Institute of Technology in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The French government provides aid for education in Cambodia, and Cambodian government officials do not want to risk losing this aid. Graduates are concerned that their job prospects could be affected in Asia where English is more common than French. France is seeking to encourage the use of French in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

The Apollo gods with a devil's past

Article Abstract:

The American edition of the memoirs of former French shipping merchant, Yves Beon is to be published in May 1997. The publication, entitled Planet Dora, reveals how prisoners in the Dora concentration camp were used to make V1 and V2 missiles. SS officer Wernher von Braun, technical director of the V2 program, later headed the Nasa Saturn booster project. The Nazi backgrounds of various Nasa officials are detailed.
