Article Abstract:

United Kingdom universities should consider acquiring the Students Loans Company in order to extend the loan system to include postgraduates, further education students and part-time students. The British Government is keen to privatise student debt and the Australian further education funding system has been researched as a potential model. However, the Australian Government did not adhere to its own assertions that allocated funding would not be used for other purposes, and the egalitarian nature of the Australian system would alter if different fees become applicable for different courses as proposed.
