Making the most of a large conference

Article Abstract:

Conferences organized by institutions such as the Southern Regional Education Board help teachers understand new teaching methods and use them in their schools. The conferences concentrate both on small rural schools and big urban schools, thereby providing an opportunity to test the efficiency of other teaching experiences and research. Trigg County High School in Kentucky has successfully implemented ideas gathered from the conference such as making students write assignments to be read-out, maintaining an individual career plan and asking students to write articles for local newspapers.

In addtition, topics must be dealt with one at a time while idioms and slangs must be avoided. Teachers must also be alert for signs that reveal the non-native speaker does not understand, such as non-stop nodding and smiling as well as absence of interruptions and questions.
