Number's up for the quiet revolution

Battle for the standard

Article Abstract:

There is a battle in the English departments of universities as to which authors should be taught as part of an English literature degree. The traditionalists want to continue with Chaucer, Shakespeare and Milton. Others want to see the curriculum broadened to include more female and ethnic writers. They would also like to see the type of material to change, not just books but scripts, newspapers and other forms of written communication.
