Rectors postpone revolution

Article Abstract:

Spanish university rectors and government representatives meeting to discuss changes in the university entrance system agreed on broad recommendations but failed to reach agreement on a plan of action. Both students and academics are discontented with the current system in which results from a national entrance test are combined with school results to determine student allocation to courses. There is a desire for entrance examinations for specific courses but the university council is reluctant to make hasty reforms.

Lecturer fights 'corruption.'

Article Abstract:

The University of Salamanca, Spain, is being sued by Spanish astrophysicist Dr Antonio Ferriz over its appointments procedures which are allegedly biased against lecturers returning from work abroad in favour of internal applicants. Ferriz was overlooked for a post at the university despite being better qualified, say two foreign experts. Domestic candidates account for up to 91% of posts in Spanish universities, reports Spanish newspaper El Pais.
