On horses and the backstroke

Article Abstract:

Integration of both academic and vocational education are being worked upon. Collaboration between academic and vocational educators is imperative to be able to serve the varied interests and needs of both students and special students alike. This collaborative process can only be possible if both groups commit themselves to a partnership whereby their knowledge and expertise are pooled together to achieve the goal of promoting effective learning. Several strategies on how such integration and collaboration can be achieved are presented to serve as models for educators and administrators alike.

The test makers

Article Abstract:

An assessment of vocational-technical education programs should focus on the results rather than the accountability. The method of testing should be based on competence and competition. However, resources from test vendors such as the Vocational-Technical Consortium of the State, the American College Testing and the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute have made a limited impact, and no direct assessment program has been introduced. Written tests are favored more, and academic and occupational skills are assessed separately.

Shift or drift

Article Abstract:

Vocational students organizations (VSOs) are finding ways to address their current problem of declining membership as a result of such external factors as decreasing number of students in highschool and in vocational education programs. The shortage of future vocational teachers and changing government policies on budget allocation and vocational programs also contributed to the membership decline. The ways in which VSOs are adapting to these inevitable changes are described.
