Pay battle to resume in 2008, union says

Article Abstract:

The University and College Union has said that lecturers could start a new pay dispute in just over two years, despite UCU members just accepting a 3-year deal worth 13.1 percent. The UCU has interpreted the three-year deal as a 10.4 percent two-year agreement and insists the third year is open for renegotiation.

Hunt blames rigid talks for prolonging pay agony

Article Abstract:

Sally Hunt, joint head of the University and College Union (UCU) has called for a root-and-branch review of the national pay-negotiating system which she blames for prolonging the pay dispute. Ms Hunt has said that inflexibility of the existing salary negotiating system had prevented an early settlement.

Flexing muscles will not improve the figure

Chair of the Universities and Colleges Employers' Association (UCEA) believes that the unions' move to a ballot over industrial action as they aim for better pay is premature. Employers believe agreement can be reached via serious negotiations.
