Power and sex in the family

Article Abstract:

Most human societies do not permit incest, although it is recognised as a powerful influence perhaps dating back to primitive society. Social scientists recognise three degrees of incest. The first is between people related very closely such as parents and children. The second is relationships between people such as cousins, and the third is between people related only by marriage. There is evidence that a strong taboo exists against incest because of the detrimental effect on the health of any children resulting from the relationship.

Why fraternity cannot be cloned

Article Abstract:

The possibility of using human cloning to choose a particular type of child seems to treat children as just another object owned by their parents. Parents should be able to accept diversity and difference within the members of their families. Tolerance of differences between the members of the family forms a basis for society's attitudes to individuality within the community. The idea of choosing a child has parallels with the idea of the ideal family, as portrayed in Nazi propaganda.
