Pundit becomes a prof

Article Abstract:

Editor of the Observer newspaper Will Hutton, a veteran economics correspondent, wants to use his appointment as visiting professor of Manchester Business School (MBS) in Mar. 1997 to advance his ideas on the stakeholding society. He reveals that he quite likes the world of academia and is looking forward to forming a relationship with MBS staff and students. Hutton feels that economists are losing their obsession with mathematics and becoming more interested in looking at the real world. He acknowledges that many questions about stakeholding have yet to be answered.

It is small, wealthy and exclusive and has suffered from a lack of credibility in the past, but accreditation by the Open University Validation Service has given it recognition and a guarantee of quality. Students who graduated in 1995, having paid fees of 7,500 pounds sterling per year, all obtained jobs within six months. The academic director feels that private higher education effectively meets a market need and its role will increase in the future.
