Ring pull

Article Abstract:

Oxford University's amateur boxing club, one of the oldest in the country, regularly attracts 50 students to weekly sparring sessions, as boxing becomes increasingly popular with Britain's students. Oxford's finest boxer, Alex Meheta, describes boxing as a thinking man's chess. He recognises that boxing is an aggressive, violent and occasionally brutal sport but argues that a boxer in the ring uses exactly the same skills as a barrister in a courtroom. University boxing clubs are attracting sponsorship from business, with ferry company P&O meeting the Oxford club's running costs.
