Rubber stamp may not spell quality

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom has no single accreditation scheme for all university degrees, including the non-UK degrees offered by some private universities. Without one accreditation scheme, it is difficult to establish a set of standards and to measure the reputation and worth of every degree offered in the country's universities.

Halls of residence to the corridors of power

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of the attitudes of students towards political activism is presented. Many students do not become involved in political activity. While the National Student Union does not encourage affiliation to any one party, it does encourage its members to take an interest in political issues.

London faces mass academic job losses

Article Abstract:

Plans to reduce higher education institutes' spending in London will result in job losses throughout the sector in 2001. Most of the jobs will be go through natural wastage although unions are concerned about larger scale redundancies.
