Service benefits everyone

Article Abstract:

Students at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, undertake to help and support ten young people referred by social services or the justice department. The project benefits both the students and the young people. All students should be prepared to take part in community service before being granted a degree. Other learning institutions in the US also undertake community servcie although some see it as serving their own interest. A number of students avoid giving help as they do not care or because they do not recognize the need to help others.

Leaders of the saner pack

Article Abstract:

Globalisation has led to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) having a major role to play yet often universities are failing to produce suitably trained leaders for NGOs. The universities need to work with NGOs to find out the skills required by the leaders, such as management and communication skills and to devise courses to fulfill those needs. Non-governmental organisations have important work in both democratic and non democratic societies.
