Article Abstract:

Biomedical scientists should disclose any financial interests when presenting research papers so that the reader can decide if they believe there has been a conflict of interest. Opponents to disclosure claim research studies are self-evident and the author's interests are irrelevant. However, companies are shown to receive more favourable outcomes in tobacco and drug studies when they are the research sponsors, while evidence suggests some physicians have higher hospital referral and operation rates when there is a financial interest.

Late show stars in the mainstream; has cultural studies really arrived?

Article Abstract:

Cultural studies courses are now available in Britain, and have been popular for some time in the US, Canada and Australia. Different areas of study such as English, languages, sociology and geography have played a part, as have movements such as Marxism and feminism. Postmodernism now features in many cultural studies courses.

If they sailed the oceans, show me the boats

Article Abstract:

Sailors appear to have been around long before farmers and possibly as early as 40,000 BC when Australia was peopled. Evidence is scarce as the oldest surviving boats date from 8000 BC, but maritime archaeology searches for the evidence.
