Speaking your mind

Article Abstract:

Language allows migrations to be traced and linguistic diversity enriches specch and poetry. Language was said to affect perception, but this is not as simple as first appeared. Adults lose the ability to distinguish and produce sounds if they do not hear and use them in their language. Differences in perception are subtle and deeply rooted. They are not due to language as such, and are more related to different customs in different societies.

Jury out in the cold on science

Article Abstract:

Scientific expertise has reached the position of presumed authority, although lay attitudes to science and technical knowledge are usually ambivalent. However recent research indicates a sceptical public attitude to scientific expertise, and there is a need to take the public's concern about the impact of science on society seriously.
