Subject bodies develop powers of assessment

Article Abstract:

Some 6.2 million pounds sterling, over three years, is planned to be invested in higher education subject centres in the UK. The centres are being established to support research and give advice and information on the teaching and assessment of their subject. Some observers have greeted the new subject centres warmly as they see specialists being able to reassert their influence over their subject. The funding councils are calling on the professional bodies for support. Four history associations are going to play a part in the history centre.
