Swing it sisters

Article Abstract:

The difference between the voting patterns of men and women has become a preoccupation for American political pundits since it is possible that Bill Clinton's margin of victory in the Nov. 1996 presidential elections could rely on the women's vote. A poll cited by Laura Winsky Mattei of the State University of New York, Buffalo, in Aug. 1996, showed that 53% of women, but just 30% of men, intended to vote for Clinton. All the evidence indicates that the gender gap may account for only a few per cent difference in voting, but this is crucial since most elections are won or lost by just a few per cent.

Happy with the reign in Spain

Article Abstract:

Spain's centre-left government, which has been in power since the early 1980s, has been beset by scandal and increasing unpopularity for the past three years, but few Spaniards have any desire to return to the way things were 20 years ago. Spain has become an established democracy and a member of both Nato and the European Union since the death of fascist dictator Francisco Franco on Nov. 20, 1975. It is generally agreed that Spanish premier Felipe Gonzales has outstayed his welcome, but few doubt that he has made a major contribution to Spain's transformation.

Building up confidence

Article Abstract:

Strathclyde University has built a new Graduate Business School, housed in a new building. Courses offered in the new centre include many short courses, an area which expanded by 43% in 1992. Like other providers Strathclyde has suffered a decline in numbers taking its Master of Business Administration course, including company sponsorhip. The shortfall has been partially met by marketing the course in the Far East.
