The 15-year quest to dislodge the 11-plus

Article Abstract:

University of Ulster at Coleraine, Northern Ireland (NI) Unesco Professor of Education Alan Smith and Queen's University, NI Professor of Education Tony Gallagher have been investigating the effects of the 11-plus examination since the 1980s. In their past research they found the 11-plus was academically and social divisive. They had looked forward to real changes being made under the devolved administration. They fear the suspension of the executive will hamper their plans. The report of their research on the effects of the 11-plus was to be presented in Feb 2000.
