Article Abstract:

An analysis of the role that nurses played during the Third Reich is made in the light of "Complicity and Compassion: The first international conference on nursing and midwifery in the Third Reich", which is due to take place at Limerick University on 10-11 June 2004. Linda Shields, holder of the foundation chair in nursing at Limerick University and organiser of the conference, believes that the role of nurses in the Holocaust has been largely ignored and that the conference will give nurses an opportunity to face up to the darker side of nursing.

First class results for co-ed Oxford

Article Abstract:

St Hugh's College, Oxford, United Kingdom, has achieved nine first class degrees in mathematics in 1993, with five of these accounted for by women, a result which challenges fears that a decision to allow men to study in the college, which previously only admitted women, would penalize women. Women account for 44% of St Hugh's students compared with 42% for the university as a whole, while some 50% of fellows are women, compared with 14% for the university as a whole. The college aims to encourage women to study science subjects.
