The history woman

Article Abstract:

St Andrews University, Scotland, United Kingdom, has carried out various measures to cater for female students, including provision of a physics fellowship, and a centenary research fellowship has been granted to Helen Macdonald who is researching motherhood between 1880 and 1918. She has discovered more interventionsit policies in Scotland compared to England, dating back to Scottish Poor law practices of the sixteenth century. She will also examine welfare aspects of motherhood in this period.

Article Abstract:

Leading Iraqi academics reveal that, now that Saddam Hussein has been deposed, hope is growing that the education system can improve and careers can be built where once only those faithful to the party could hope of any sort of career. They acknowledge that the Western invasion of Iraq may have failed to find what they claimed was there, but they point out that deposing Saddam has released the country from a dictator and given freedom to its people.

Scots delight in record rise

Article Abstract:

The Scottish Funding Council's GBP 1 billion budget for 2006-07 will give higher education institutions an average 7.2 percent increase in teaching and research money. The funding council is prioritising the support of research competitiveness.
