The British Psychological Society (BPS) is facing a debate between clinical and academic psychologist members, with the clinical practitioners wanting the BPS to be more of a professional body prepared to engage with and comment on all aspects of society. The academic psychologists view the BPS as an academic learned society which reserves judgement and commentary.

Major grant shake-up on cards under new metrics

Article Abstract:

The Higher Education Policy Institute (Hepi) has analysed the possible impact of Treasury proposals to use metrics as an alternative to RAE results and found that some universities would lose large amounts of their grants. The amounts gained and lost by different institutions would depend on the type of metrics used to determine grants.

U.K. academics are involving themselves in an interdisciplinary crusade against global warming. Former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore has urged academics to spread the message and urgency of climate change even to people who do not understand the science behind the phenomenon.
