Tokyo keen to raise global science profile

Article Abstract:

Tokyo University plans to make its international profile stronger by establishing links with leading universities. The strategies to encourage the overseas students to join Tokyo University include widening the research areas of health, environment, energy and other challenges in the world and creating more scholarships for the overseas students.

Japanese step up research cash fight

Article Abstract:

Academics in Japan are lobbying to stop legislation which they believe threatens autonomy of universities and provides the Education Ministry with the authority to allocate government research funds. The academics plan to raise public awareness of what is set to happen and hope that they can still block the legislation.

Scholars claim Bill will invert Japan's postwar gains

The Japan Educational Law Association (JELA) aims to join forces with parents' organisations, teachers' unions and provincial educational boards to block the Government's proposed Bill on education. The JELA argues that the Bill breaches the constitution.
