Tough nut with a sweet centre

Article Abstract:

Architectural designer Ahrends Burton and Koralek have designed a three-floor library for the Federation of Selly Oak Colleges in Birmingham, England, which meets the demanding design specifications. The 5.4 million pounds sterling Orchard Centre library will have a simple construction but will be technically sophisticated in order to maintain the libarary's special collections in a temperature-controlled environment. The college demanded a library which would meet the needs of students from various religious backgrounds and of all ages and abilities.

Distance holds key to growth

Article Abstract:

Argentina has a large land mass, and relatively few inhabitants, mainly concentrated in Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Rosario and Mendoza. Argentine universities have large numbers of students, and the students fund their studies by working at the same time. Private universities have helped in the expansion of student numbers, as has distance learning. Distance learning can offer students the same quality of tuition as conventional students receive, as is shown by the Universidad de Buenos Aires.
