Trade & industrial education

Article Abstract:

The future of trade and industrial (T&I) education programs was discussed. Educational reform proposals have tended to ignore T&I education, perhaps because it is perceived as unimportant. Enrollment in T&I programs havealso declined, primarily because students and their parents believe that highereducation programs would lead to better jobs. However, the demands for occupational skills in the American workplace shows that T&I is still very relevant. T&I educators and policymakers must emphasize the relevance of T&I education and ensure that T&I is responsive to the demands of the workplace.

Education reform: overlooking voc ed?

Article Abstract:

Education reform is not always for the benefit of the students, since many of them are formulated only out of power politics without regard for individual options and differences. Several proposals, such as national testing, substitution of vocational education for academic courses and single high school curriculum should be avoided. Standardized tests only result in discrimination since not all children test well. Vocational education should not be allowed as a substitute for the academic because of changing curriculum requirements and a common curriculum only restricts individual choices.

We the pupils..

Article Abstract:

A bill of rights for vocational students is presented for the consideration of professional associations, state and local educational agencies. These individual students rights should be guaranteed by all educators who play a central role in shaping the work lives of their students. As it is, the bill should assure students of equitable treatment and ensure that they receive adequate training in preparation for employment.
