Trapped in a time warp

Article Abstract:

The Tory party is still suffering from its failure to come to terms with the individual freedoms which arose in the 1960s. At that time, Tories accepted individualism in the economic sphere, but did not accept social liberalism and individual freedoms such as the freedom for women to be on an equal footing with men, and the freedom to choose your own sexuality. It is only now that the Tories, under new leader William Hague, are making a cautious attempt to show a more tolerant face. New Labour has already responded to the social, sexual and female revolutions since the 1960s.

Please don't mention the war

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom must stop focusing on its historical relations with Germany and concentrate instead on current relations in order to become successful European partners. The British virtually always ultimately refer to the Second World War when discussing Germany, partly because it makes them feel morally superior. Students remain fixated with Nazi Germany, and a large number of courses are available to meet this demand. The English are ridiculed by the Germans for refusing to accept change.

Redecorating Britain in a deep shade of blue

Article Abstract:

Since 1971 successive British governments have promised economic reforms based on free-market principles. The new right, led by Margaret Thatcher, identified inflation, state intervention and trades unions as the causes of Britain's economic decline. The new Labour party now also adopts similar views, and the distinction between the political left and right is virtually non-existent.
