Ucas data give hope to troubled subjects

The introduction of top-up fees has been survived better by science degrees than many arts degrees, with universities accepting more chemistry students this year than in any year since 1999. The number of mathematics students accepted is also slightly up, while physics students acceptance are flat.

Security at all-time high

Security at universities in London, England, is at an all-time high following the terrorist attacks on 07 July 2005. Campuses across London have invested thousands of pounds in employing private consultants to review their security procedures and to stage simulated terrorist attacks.

Government study warns fees will hit four-year courses

Top-up fees will deter students from applying for 4-year undergraduate degree courses in languages, sciences and engineering, according to a study commissioned by the government. Students will avoid the subjects to avoid the extra burden of further debt.
