...did not laugh at psychic 'Shirley'

Article Abstract:

A sceptic details her meeting with an alleged comedian, Marc Wootton, who was pretending to be a psychic for a new series that he is recording for the BBC. It is argued that an individual sceptic could be made to look foolish is not of concern, but the idea of scepticism could be made to look silly is troubling as there are many out there who are prepared to exploit the gullibility of less sceptical minds and who need to be exposed by sceptics.

Enter raw politics, stage right

Article Abstract:

The coordinator of the Durham Drama Festival urges student theatre groups to swap their Shakespeare for the riskier, more socially relevant works that were the trademark of student theater in the 1970s. It is acknowledged that for many involved in student theatre the idea of producing politically challenging work is less appealing than simply being entertaining but it is argued that student theatre is at its best when being confrontational.
