Accessories: Video Black Boxes Opening Up to Bright New Mass Market Future

Article Abstract:

Suppliers of image and sound enhancing products hope to bring their products to the mass market. Accessory manufacturers are using advertising and new products to enhance consumer awareness. Major audio and video manufacturers are entering the market. Zenith will be introducing several new switching devices. Akai will introduce a four-inch black and white monitor with dubbing capabilities. Showtime has divided its professional and consumer products into five categories including multifunction systems, a convenience series of switchers and amplifiers and the showmaker series of affordable enhancement devices. The multifunction combo units should be the ones to sweep customers off their feet.

Suppliers of computer care products intend to convince consumers that the best running machine is a very clean one. Among the products being offered are video display solutions, printer cleaning fluids and anti-static sprays. Computer care products can provide retailers with extra profits. Automation Facilities Corp. is the latest entrant to the market with its A.F. Collection line. The line consists of Floppiclene and Microclene. Recoton offers both high and low end cleaning products.

Consumer electronics retailers are planning on significant sales increases in 1984. They are exercising some caution because of possible supply problems, surprises from manufacturers and the possibility of agressive new retailers entering the market. The retailers' mood is one of restrained optimism.
