Canon shoots for digital camcorder scene with unique optical design

Japanese manufacturer Canon Inc has applied its technical skills to develop a range of digital camcorders even as it markets a series of deluxe analog models. Its top-end digital XL-1 and MV1 Optura are available along with three analog models in Europe, while the CV11 is available in other parts of the world. It has introduced the MV1, XL-1 and CV11 in the US, and expects demand for these digital models to take off in Southeast Asia. Upcoming digital models, meanwhile, will feature a unique design based on Canon's optical technologies.

Hitachi Ltd has created a DVDCAM camcorder that uses an 8cm RAM disc for recording media. The company is targeting the consumer camcorder market where a shift to digital format is taking place. The DVDCAM camcorder has various advantages unattainable by conventional tape-based DVCs. The advantages include a navigation function that enables users to display images at the beginning of recorded files on the screen. The product can be connected to a personal computer with universal serial bus terminal.

Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer Sony Corp's Handycam DCR-PC3 model is the third of the company's digital camcorders to adopt its Memory Stick IC recording technology. The Handycam DCR-PC3 uses an NP-FS31 S Series InfoLithium battery to record images for up to three hours and 55 minutes on miniDV tape. This low power-consuming model combines a 680,000- pixel CCD featuring Sony's hole adaptive diode technology with a Carl Zeiss lens for superior image quality.
