Digital camcorders: Sony expects to extend its winning streak in global camcorder market

Article Abstract:

Sony Corp is planning to expand the range of its digital camcorders in anticipation of the acceleration of the popularity of digital camcorders in 2001. One of the company's strategies for meeting increased demand for digital camcorders has been to develop a camera head mechanism that enables the record of digital images using the same tape employed by analog Hi8 camcorders. Sony intends to enhance distinctive features of the Digital18 models such as the high-power zoom and playback compatibility of analog Hi8 cameras.

Digital camcorders: Matsushita beefs up high-end digital camcorders wtih editing capabilities

Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd is planning to expand its digital camcorder lineup to increase its share of the market. The company's activities include efforts to bring out advanced high-end models supporting editing capabilities for high-definitionmoving images, as well as still image functions. The company is offering four models in its e.cam series of digital camcorders: the MX1, the MX5, the MX7 and the MX300.

Canon Inc is planning to increase its share of the worldwide camcorder market in 2001. The company is making up for lost time with products that combine digital and optical technologies. Its digital video camera market focus is on Europe and the US. One of the company's strategies is to offer a mix of low, medium and high-end products. The company will introduce medium-priced products between Feb and Apr 2001.
